Island of Dreams

Felix Dennis Launches New Book of Poetry – Island of Dreams

Notes from a small island invites you to spend ‘nother day in paradise’ -

London: January 2008: Felix Dennis launches his fourth book of poetry, Island of Dreams on 21 February. This beautiful, photo illustrated book of 99 poems has been written on the Caribbean island of Mustique by Felix Dennis, inspired by the way this unspoilt island’s community of locals and homeowners work together to sustain its beauty.

Island of Dreams follows the success of previous literary works from Felix Dennis, including best selling poetry volumes When Jack Sued Jill: Nursery Rhymes for Modern Times (2006), Lone Wolf (2004) and A Glass Half Full (2002), as well as the book How To Get Rich, a distillation of his business wisdom, launched in August 2006. In this new collection of poems, Felix Dennis has created a heartfelt souvenir for the special island of Mustique and its people, where he lives for up to five months of the year.

Commenting on his new launch, Felix Dennis said: “To some, Mustique is known as little more than a playground for the rich and the famous. But I believe it represents something rather more profound and it has been a source of inspiration for my writing for many years. Mustique is a unique social, cooperative experiment; one which began as a stylish house party and which is now maturing into a cohesive community.”

With odes to the Lilliputian environment, climate, geography, flora, fauna, sky, sea and people of Mustique, Island Of Dreams takes you on a magical tour through this special place in paradise. From the small, seemingly insignificant changes in nature, paying homage to the many colourful characters who make up Mustique’s vibrant community, to reflecting on how poetry and Mustique itself have been life saving experiences for Dennis, this collection of touching poems is a moving and thought-provoking account of island life.

Island of Dreams is beautifully illustrated with photography by Sybil Sparkes and illustrations by Bill Sanderson, which capture perfectly the beauty and character of Mustique. All sales of the book will be donated to the Mustique Community Library, an institution Dennis founded 10 years ago and has supported ever since, and will go towards providing more books, computers and entertainment to the local people of the island.

Published by Noctua Press, Island of Dreams will be available in online book sites priced at £12.50. The book is accompanied by a spoken word CD of Felix Dennis reading the collection of poems.

Felix Dennis developed a compulsion to write poetry following a life-threatening illness in 1999 and found himself scribbling verse in business meetings, in aeroplanes, at social functions and even in his sleep. Felix Dennis’s other great passions include collecting books, listening to blues and jazz, drinking French claret, breeding rare pigs, commissioning bronze figurative sculpture, planting trees and avoiding business meetings. He has homes in Warwickshire, London, New York, Connecticut, and, of course, Mustique.
